Senior Constables Receive Letters Of Promotion

Commissioner of Police Richard Boyce has lauded those police officers who have been promoted to Senior Constables and encouraged them to embrace this new challenge.

Speaking at a recognition ceremony for Senior Constables on Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Boyce said the post had been created after in-depth discussions, and was acknowledgement of the good work of The Barbados Police Service. He urged them to always give their best.

I want persons to embrace all of the duties which may come your way. So, whether it is giving advice to members of the public in the absence of the substantive sergeant, or … dealing with a dispute, or making sure persons make the correct entries in the diary, whatever the duties are, it is for you to carry [your] duties fully and develop the appetite for briefing the substantive sergeant or station sergeant when they return to the station. So, a lot will be placed on you,” the Commissioner stated.

He told the group that they now have great responsibility and must understand the entire aspect of community policing and engagement with members of the public. “That is one area that we want to…push hard in getting it right, and when we get it right, we must prepare to keep it right over and over,” he stressed.

Commissioner Boyce noted that the public expects and demands a lot from lawmen. He gave the assurance that the senior command team stood ready to assist the Senior Constables.

He continued: “I congratulate all persons on…this promotion…. We expect a tremendous quality of work from each and every one….  We’ve only just begun; it’s for you to continue the journey.”

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sonia Boyce, said the creation of the new rank underscored their commitment to enhancing career progression, recognising excellence and strengthening leadership at every level.

“Each officer being promoted today has not only demonstrated outstanding dedication and professionalism but also becomes a pioneer in shaping the role and responsibilities of this important new position.

“The creation of the Senior Constable rank reflects our ongoing efforts to adapt and improve our operational structure to better serve our community. Officers elevated to this new rank will play a pivotal role in bridging frontline duties with leadership responsibilities, fostering greater cohesion and mentoring within our teams. The expanded scope of influence and accountability will ensure a stronger, more responsive Police Service,” ACP Boyce stated.

At yesterday’s ceremony, 217 constables received their letters, including Desmond Linton and Saylleen Hinds, who were the oldest male and female senior constables, respectively.

The ceremony was held at Prince Cave Hall, Band Headquarters, District ‘A’ Complex, Station Hill, St. Michael. (PR/GIS)
