GovTech Barbados Opens New Innovation Challenge On Zindi
GovTech Barbados Ltd., in collaboration with Zindi, has launched the Barbados Lands and Surveys Plot Automation Challenge on the Zindi platform, inviting innovators to design AI solutions to automate handling of land records in the Lands and Surveys Department.
The challenge is part of GovTech Barbados’ drive to modernise public services through innovation and open collaboration. By engaging data scientists, developers, and problem-solvers locally and globally, the initiative aims to strengthen efficiency in land management while building skills and opportunities for young talent in the region.
To help participants get started, GovTech Barbados held a workshop entitled Getting Started with the Barbados Lands and Surveys Plot Automation Challenge last Saturday, at Pelican House. The session walked participants through the Zindi platform, provided technical guidance, and created space for direct engagement with experts.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GovTech Barbados, Mark Boyce said, “Our partnership with Zindi and the Barbados Lands and Surveys Department demonstrates our commitment to building a culture of innovation in government. By opening real-world problems to a global community of problem-solvers, we are not only modernising how we work, but also creating opportunities for young talent in Barbados and the wider region to sharpen their skills and make a tangible impact.”
CEO of Zindi, Celina Lee, said: “We’re delighted to be launching the first of three AI challenges in Barbados, in partnership with GovTech Barbados and the Lands and Surveys Department. We can’t wait to see the cutting-edge solutions generated by the Zindi community to address the real technological challenges we’ve identified through these partnerships.”
Chief Surveyor, David McCollin, commented: “For Barbados, taking part in the Zindi project reflects the Lands and Surveys Department’s commitment to embracing technology, innovation, and out-of-the-box thinking to address the complex challenges we face. By leveraging cutting-edge solutions, we aim to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our work, delivering better outcomes for our stakeholders, our communities, and all agencies and individuals who depend on the services we provide.”
The Barbados Lands and Surveys Plot Automation Challenge is now live on Zindi.
