APPLEWHAITE SECURES PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT
Captain of the Barbados senior men’s football national team Andre Applewhaite has secured a two-year professional contract with Connecticut United the Major League Soccer (MLS).
The MSL is the highest level of the United States soccer league system, Applewhite, a left back has been a key player for Barbados Tridents since making his debut against the Dominican Republic in a CONCACA FIFA World Cup qualifier in 2022.
Applewhaite, had an outstanding year with Weymouth Wales leading the Carrington Village based club to the Elite Division, Knockout and Prime Cup titles during the domestic season.
Applewhaite, 23, won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the Best Defender in Prime Minister’s Cup. He scored seven goals in the tournament, including a hat-trick against Kickstart Rush in the final at Kensington Oval last month.
He was the top-scorer for Wales in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) with five goals.
