Activities For World Consumer Rights Day 2025

Consumerism will take centre stage when various departments of the Ministry of Energy and Business host several activities from March 9 to 14, to observe World Consumer Rights Day.

A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles is the theme of the week-long celebrations, will start on Sunday, March 9, with a church service at the Sanctuary Empowerment Centre, Country Road, St. Michael. It commences at 10:00 a.m., and there will be a collection of non-perishables for charity during the service.

On Monday, March 10, at 9:30 a.m., there will be an interactive Community Workshop, entitled “Your Footprint Matters”, will be held on the 1st Floor of the Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael. Suppliers, producers, consumers, entrepreneurs and vendors are encouraged to attend the workshop.

A Community Walk Through, under the theme “Green Living at Home”, takes place on Tuesday, March 11, from 10:00 a.m. in Redman’s Village, St. Thomas, and at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. Teams from the Ministry’s departments will promote sustainable living habits at home and distribute sustainability kits, including LED bulbs.

Additionally, the officers will tour a number of markets on Wednesday, March 12, beginning at 10:00 a.m. There will be a community engagement at Q in the Community, Content Playing Field, St. Thomas, takes place on Thursday, March 13, starting at 11:00 a.m.

The week will climax on Friday, March 14, with a Community Fair at the car park of the Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sustainable entrepreneurs and vendors will showcase their products, and live entertainment will be provided. Members of the public are invited to attend.

The World Consumer Rights Week of Celebrations is being organised by the Office of Public Counsel, Fair Trading Commission, Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and the Cooperatives Department.

World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated annually on March 15. It is an opportunity to draw attention to the rights of consumers, and share valuable information on how to respect and protect them. (PR/GIS)
