AFRICAN AWARENESS MONTH

African Awareness begins today February 1and will be celebrated throughout the entire month. It is a month long celebration of the rich culture, heritage of African people and people of African descent. In other countries the month is referred to as Black History Month and is significant for several reasons:

providing an opportunity to celebrate and honour the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of people of African descent across the world

promoting an understanding and awareness of African history, achievements, and challenges, helping to combat stereotypes

highlighting the accomplishments of individuals of African descent in various fields such as science, literature, arts, politics, and more

showcasing positive role models and historical figures, inspiring future generations and encouraging them to pursue their goals while being proud of their heritage.

promoting a sense of global solidarity by recognizing the interconnectedness of people of African descent and their impact on societies worldwide

African Awareness Month or Black History month therefore serves as a time to recognise and appreciate the culture, contributions and challenges facing individuals of African descent in an effort to obtain a more inclusive society.
