NOVEMBER 30TH IS NOW BARBADOS NATIONAL DAY
As Barbados is set to celebrate its 56th anniversary of Independence Minister of Home Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams announced at a press conference held at Ilaro Court, yesterday government’s decision to amalgamate the country’s two historical milestones, Independence and Republic status as announced December 1st 2021.
The minister in making the announcement stressed that there was no intent to obscure the legacy of the ‘father of Independence’ but the step taken last year to become a republic left a decision to be made, ‘Do we call it Independence Day or Republic Day’?
He stated that both days, November 30th and December 1st 2021 were national days of importance to Barbados therefore it was fitting that the date be called Barbados National Day.
He suggested that the day not just be about being independent or being a republic it was also about celebrating our people in various areas, the arts, the military, everything Bajan.
