Barbados Seniors set new record and return with impressive haul of medals  

THE Barbados Senior athletics team returned home recently after an outstanding performance at the US National Senior Games held in May 10-23, 2022 where they set a new Barbados National Record. 

The team of 13 members from the Barbados Masters and Seniors Athletic Club (BAMSAC) captured 14 medals and set a new national senior mark in the 4x100m women’s relay with a time of 1:08.66. 

The record setting team included Beverley Beckles, Sandra Murray, Angela Holder and Gloria Crookendale, Crrokendale came down from the 70-75 age group to compete with the team in the Women’s 65-69, 4x100m which they won. 

The US National Senior Games were held in Fort Lauderdale in many different disciplines and the Barbados Track and field team returned with five gold, five silver and four bronze medals. 

Other Medal winners included  Barney Brathwaite at the age of 87 winning gold in the 200m (39.31secs) and 400m (1:39.18) races, silver in the 100m dash (17.28secs) and bronze in the 50m (8.94secs). Anthony Phillips also brought home a bronze in the 1500m walk, and he finished fourth in the 5K walk. 

Anthony Phillips captured a bronze in the 1500m walk, Fay Bent, who was third in the 5K walk, and Angela Jackson, won a gold medal in the Discus and silver in the Shot Put. 

Members of the record setting relay team also won individual medals as Beverley Beckles was second in the 65-69  Women’s 100m dash in 15.21secs, as well as the 1500m Walk Race on the track, and the 5K Road Walk. 

Sandra Murray, came third in the 200m final and fourth in the 100m dash (15.63secs).
