Barbados Steps Boldly into the Spotlight for CARIFESTA XV

With just days to go before the curtain rises on CARIFESTA XV, Barbados is positioning itself as a powerful example of how a small island can achieve big things on the regional stage.

Speaking at the signing ceremony for CAF’s grant funding, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight, emphasized the significance of hosting the Caribbean’s premier arts festival.

“Thirty-nine national delegations and specially invited guests will be part of this year’s CARIFESTA. This is something that Barbados is doing for all of us — and it is a signal that a small island developing nation can do something big within the region, can showcase Caribbean excellence, and demonstrate the richness of our culture, heritage, and arts.”

She also urged Barbadians to embrace the festival wholeheartedly:

“From the very beginning, I want to ask all Barbadians to come out and participate in the activities. Your support is what will ensure the success of CARIFESTA XV.”

Festival Director Carol Roberts echoed the call, reminding the public that preparations are in full swing: rehearsals running round the clock, exhibitions being staged, and delegations readying for arrival.

“We are in the throes of execution, and our aim is to produce the best CARIFESTA we can,” she said. “But we cannot do it alone. It requires the support of every Barbadian.”

CAF’s partnership is already bearing fruit, with support enabling extra-regional participation, including delegates from Panama, a symbolic cultural link to Barbados. The bank’s sponsorship of the Big Conversations series will also provide space for meaningful dialogue on the future of arts and heritage.

As Roberts put it: “Partnerships like this allow us to roll out the hospitable welcome carpet Barbados is known for. We are grateful to CAF for saying ‘yes’ immediately and helping us present the Caribbean at its finest.”

For ten days, beginning Friday August 22nd 2025, Barbados will transform into the beating heart of the Caribbean’s creative spirit — a stage where the voices, visions, and artistry of the region will shine brightly.
