CICS Celebrates 30 Years With Awards Dinner

The Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat (CICS) celebrated its 30th anniversary with an Awards Dinner last Saturday, January 31, at the Wyndham Grand Barbados Hotel, Long Bay, St. Philip.

The event recognised the contributions of parish ambassadors, parish attendants, programme partners, parish independence committees and community leaders who have supported the CICS Programme over the past three decades.

In delivering the feature address, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Joy Adamson, described the programme as a vital part of national and community development.

“This programme has stood the test of time because of the commitment of volunteers and the strong sense of national pride that continues to drive it,” Mrs. Adamson said.

She told the parish ambassadors that their role went beyond the competition period and urged them to continue serving their communities.

“You are the drivers of the transformation of Barbados. I urge you to recognise the role you are expected to play and to continue being positive examples to your peers,” she stated.

The Permanent Secretary also emphasised the importance of youth involvement in rebuilding communities and contributing to national progress.

“Our young people must remain at the centre of community development. It is our responsibility to provide you with the tools and opportunities to succeed,” she said.

Mrs. Adamson expressed appreciation to the volunteers, facilitators, judges and programme partners for their continued support.

“The success and sustainability of this programme would not be possible without your dedication and service,” she indicated.

As Barbados moves towards its 60th Anniversary of Independence, the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community participation and promoting national pride across the island. (PR/GIS)
