Co-Ops To Display At Ceremonial Delivery Of Last Canes

Persons attending this year’s Ceremonial Delivery of the Last Canes on Saturday, July 5, will get an opportunity to support members of the co-operative movement, who will, for the first time, showcase their products at that event.

Several cooperatives will be participating in the event, at Queen’s Park, Constitution Road, St. Michael, including the Women Entrepreneurs Co-operative Society Limited, Unified Trust Co-operative Society Limited, the St. George Farmers Marketing Co-operative Society Limited, Emerging Brands Barbados Co-operative Society Limited, and Ujamaa Co-operative Society Limited. The event starts at 2:00 p.m. and ends at 10:00 p.m.

Various products, goods, and services will be offered for sale, such as home-made wines, natural soaps, agricultural produce, different types of jewellery, hair accessories, locally-made bags, and clothing. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the Ceremonial Delivery of the Last Canes.

International Day of Co-operatives will be celebrated globally this Saturday, July 5, under the theme Co-operatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World. It fits in with the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives 2025, which highlights the vital role these organisations play across the globe in developing more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities.

The International Co-operative Alliance was created in 1895, and is the independent association which unites, represents, and serves co-operatives across the world. Since 1923, it has celebrated the event on the first Saturday in July each year.  There are approximately 1.2 billion members in the co-operative movement worldwide. (PR/GIS)
