Barbadians and visitors to the island are being encouraged to come out and support Arts for Activism: A Cultural Production on Gender-Based Violence.
The production, one of the events in commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, will be held under the patronage of the Bureau of Gender Affairs, Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, in partnership with the Institute for Gender and Development Studies, The University of the West Indies, and the High Commission of Canada in Barbados.
It will be staged at Golden Square Freedom Park, The City, on Saturday, December 7, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Members of the public will be entertained through music, poetry, dance, and other live performances, which will address the issue of gender-based violence.
The production will be punctuated by speakers sharing information on the topic and providing answers on what can be done to end gender-based violence. It will also provide an opportunity for survivors and their families to share their experiences.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a period in which the global community seeks to raise awareness about gender-based violence, dismantle discriminatory practices, and appeal for improved laws and policies to end violence against women.
