Gonsalves Sets November 27 as Election Day
Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – October 29, 2025
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has officially announced that the next general election in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be held on Thursday, November 27, 2025. The announcement came last night during a political meeting in the constituency of North Central Windward, where Dr. Gonsalves declared that the time had come once again for the people to make their choice at the polls.
This marks the sixth time that Dr. Gonsalves will lead his Unity Labour Party (ULP) into a general election since first taking office in March 2001. Over more than two decades at the helm, he has become one of the Caribbean’s longest-serving prime ministers, guiding the country through major social, infrastructural, and economic developments while maintaining a strong presence both regionally and internationally.
Often described as a seasoned and charismatic leader, Dr. Gonsalves, affectionately known as “Comrade Ralph,” has built his political legacy on policies aimed at education reform, housing, and social advancement. His administration has also faced challenges, including debates on governance, the economy, and the pace of national development.
During his address last night, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in the ULP’s record and urged supporters to “stay the course.” “The people know our work,” he said, “and they know who has stood with them through every trial and triumph.”
As the campaign season officially begins, political parties are expected to intensify their outreach efforts across the nation’s fifteen constituencies. The Electoral Office is anticipated to release the full election timetable in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the mood at the meeting was described as festive, with party supporters waving flags and chanting slogans as the announcement was made. Even the Prime Minister’s well-known cat, “Comrade Kitty,” made a brief appearance on stage, drawing laughter and cheers from the crowd — a light-hearted moment that added to the evening’s excitement.
With the date now set, all eyes turn to November 27, when Vincentians will once again head to the polls to decide the future leadership of their nation. Nomination day will be Monday November 10th.
