HC and Springer are Kings and Queens of the Track 

It’s official Harrison College and Springer Memorial are the Kings and Queen’s of the 2023 Dasani-Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championships (BSSAC).

Harrison College went into the final day leading the Boys and never allowed anyone to close the gap. With the victor ludorum, Aidan Moore coming from their school they finished with 283.5 points. 

Second was the Combermere School (CS) with 234 points, while Christ Church Foundation rounded off the top 3 with 213 points.

In the Girls Division the title race went down to the wire between Springer Memorial and the St. Michael School. 

The lead changed hands in the middle of the final day but the battle continued with Springer and St. Michael counting every point and every race. Even in the relays with the lead still possible to change hands finishing the race to collect points was mandatory. 

In the end everyone sat on the edge of their seat with a number of protest going to the officials. After a short break to adjudicate these, the final results showed Springer with 306.5 points had held on for the victory over St. Michael School who had 301 points. 

Third place went to the Combermere School with 260.

Outstanding athlete during the final included Brieanna Boyce (SMS) who won the 400m, 400m hurdles and was second in the 200m Under-20 Girls. 

Nya Browne (QC) who won the 100m, 110m hurdles and the 200m in the Under-20 girls. 

Aniya Nurse from the Alleyne School who won the 100m, 200m and the 400m in the Under 17 girls. 

Aragon Straker (CS) won the 100m, 200m in the Under-20 Boys.

Also in the Under-20 boys, Fynn Armstrong (HC) won the 5000m and was second in the 800m, which was won by Favian Gollop (CS).

The under-17 boys saw Aaron Massiah (SMS) excelling in the field events winning the high jump, long jump and the triple jump.

Aidan Moore (HC) on his way to the Victor Ludorum title won the 200m, 400m, 800m and was second in the long jump in the Under-15. 

Alexus Mascoll from Lester Vaughan won the 200m and was second in the 100m and long jump, while Chanecia Bryan (CS) won the 400m, 800m, and the 1500m in the Under-15 Girls. 

Shakobi Gittens from the Lodge School won the 800m and the long jump, while Zane-Andrew Clarke (QC) won the 100m and 200m ahead of his teammate Danari Griffith who was second in the 100m and 200m and third in the long jump. 

Victrix ludorum was Sarama James (SMS) won the 100m, 200m, and the long jump in the Under-13 Girls Division.
