Hilton Appoints Barbadian Chef Andre Nurse as Executive Sous Chef at Hilton Aruba

Hilton has announced the promotion of Barbadian Chef Andre Nurse to the position of Executive Sous Chef at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Aruba where he will oversee the operational and administrative tasks of the culinary department there.

Nurse, who has been with Hilton Barbados for over 15 years, made a significant and invaluable contribution to the culinary experience at the Resort in various positions over the years including Commis Chef, Sous Chef and, most recently, Executive Chef (acting).

During that time the 37 year-old also gained several awards and accolades from accredited institutions in the industry ranging from the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association’s Scholarship Award from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) and Team Gold on five occasions as a member of the Barbados Culinary Team at Taste of the Caribbean.

On his new assignment Chef Nurse, who credits his love of food to his mother Rosalind Hoyte, explains that he sees it as a challenge which will add to his knowledge and experience in the international culinary world. 

He said, “I watched my mum prepare meals all the time and, at the tender age of nine, on one of our family trips overseas I decided to cook my first meal consisting of baked lamb chops and potatoes and the rest is history. I got so much satisfaction watching my family enjoy the meal, not to mention their surprise that I could prepare such dishes, the chef in me was born.”

Hilton Barbados’ General Manager, Jacques Monteil, congratulated Nurse on his promotion and stated, “This truly is an amazing time for Andre. He has demonstrated a level of maturity beyond his years, is a true team player and can be counted on to assist wherever his services are required.

“Our greatest asset is our team and Hilton has recognized the importance of investing in their futures.  Hilton has also made its mark as an innovator in hospitality, creating opportunities for team members to be exposed to and experience training locally, regionally and internationally, and we are certain Andre will shine in his new post.”
