AFTER MONTHS of tough competition Richelle Johnson emerged the winner of the 2023 Dwight Sutherland Karaoke Competition held at the White Rabbit Restaurant and Bar in St. George recently.
Johnson’s stirring renditions of Whitney Houston’s Try it on my Own and Queen Ifrica’s Keep it to Yourself saw her walking away with the winner’s title and $2 000 in cash ahead of Lu Lu and Tamara, who placed second and third and won $1 500 and $1 000 in cash, respectively.
Minister Sutherland, Parliamentary representative for St. George South, congratulated the top three and explained that this year’s event was keenly contested. He said, “Our Karaoke competition originally started in 2012 and each year it continues to grow. For 2023 we had over 70 competitors and touched 21 shops and small businesses in St. George South, attracting massive crowds each night.
“What the competition does is showcase the amazing talent in the constituency and it also creates a buzz and generates business for the shops and businesses as well. So I really want to thank all those who came out and supported the competition over the past few months as well as our judges and all the competitors who sang weekly to make this event a success. I also want to congratulate our top three, especially our winner Richelle, who ably represented the Cotton Tree Bar in Greens.” (PR)
