Law Reform Commission Invites Public Submissions By Feb. 16

The Law Reform Commission is inviting members of the public and organisations, including civil society groups and professional bodies, to submit written proposals for the reform of the law.

Proposals, which should not exceed 1,500 words, must be submitted by Monday, February 16, 2026.

The submission of written proposals will not preclude oral discussion with their authors. Following a review of the received submissions, the Law Reform Commission will contact the authors to discuss their proposals.

Submissions may be sent via email to lawreform@barbados.gov.bb, or delivered in hard copy to The Law Reform Commission, Henry Forde and David Simmons Legal and Judicial Complex, Coleridge Street, Bridgetown.

Chairman of the Law Reform Commission, Sir David Simmons, is encouraging members of the public to participate in this opportunity to shape modern legislation, thus ensuring that the law remains fair, effective, and responsive to the needs of society.

Sir David said: “Our laws should be capable of being recast in a form which is intelligible, accessible and in accordance with contemporary needs.  A key aspect of the law reform process is consultation. What the Law Reform Commission is doing is simply inviting the people of Barbados to become involved in the law reform process by giving the Commission the benefit of their experience, expertise and, indeed, their observations of the state of the law.”

The Commission falls under the Office of the Attorney General and its broad statutory mandate is to “systematically keep the law under review for the purpose of developing, modernising and simplifying the law”.

The Law Revision and Law Reform Act, 2019-6, empowers the Commission to receive and consider any suggestions or formal proposals for the reform of the law. (PR/GIS)
