Lodge School Promotes Healthy Living, Leadership and Literacy
The Lodge School is reinforcing its commitment to health, leadership, and learning through a series of new initiatives and celebrations that took place on the campus this week.
Students have been encouraged to stay hydrated and make healthier lifestyle choices following the presentation of a new water station from Hydrate Caribbean. The initiative, supported by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Maria Holder Diabetes Centre for the Caribbean, will see each student receiving a stainless-steel water bottle.
Principal of The Lodge School, Stephen Jackman said the project forms part of the school’s wider efforts to promote student wellness.
“We want our students to drink more water, especially in this heat, and to develop habits that are good for their health and for the environment,” he explained.
Representatives from Hydrate Caribbean emphasized that the project aims to reduce plastic waste while encouraging sustainable practices in schools. A spokesperson from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints noted that environmental stewardship aligns with their mission of service and care for the planet. Meanwhile, the Maria Holder Diabetes Centre highlighted the importance of teaching healthy habits early, noting that with diabetes rates in Barbados on the rise, initiatives like this can make a meaningful difference.
The school’s Head Boy and Head Girl were the first to fill their new bottles, surrounded by proud teachers, sponsors, and students. Both student leaders were also officially pinned during a brief ceremony. They expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to maintain the school’s proud traditions.
“We plan to uphold the standards of The Lodge School and be mentors to our peers,” the new Head Boy said.
The Head Girl added, “My advice to young people is to put everything in God’s hands and strive for a balanced life.”
Through these combined initiatives — promoting hydration and leadership, The Lodge School continues to uphold its legacy of nurturing well-rounded, responsible young citizens.
