A new limited release inspired by Mount Gay’s rich connection with the sailing community.
Mount Gay, the oldest running rum distillery since 1703, has launched a new limited-edition rum: Mount Gay Eclipse Navy Strength. Crafted by Master Blender, Trudiann Branker, Eclipse Navy Strength was launched in the United States this month (May) and offers a bold and vibrant flavour while paying homage to the brand’s deep-rooted connection with the maritime world.
Branker said, “Eclipse Navy Strength is inspired by the rich naval history where rum played a crucial role aboard ships. Navy Strength is bottled at 57.1% ABV. This tradition dates back to when sailors relied on rum’s flammability and potency to help ignite wet gunpowder.
“Given that Eclipse has been loved by sailors around the world since its launch in 1910, it made sense to craft this loved blend at Navy Strength. When I first tried it I was blown away by the vibrancy of the flavor of the rum. Crafting it at navy strength was a thrilling experiment that paid off unveiling a rum that’s not only rich in flavor but also in history and tradition.”
This weekend in New York, Mount Gay has taken over Times Square, showcasing the latest limited edition until Monday. Laurent Cosson, Global Brand Director, said, “It is a magical moment to witness Mount Gay Eclipse Navy Strength, making its premiere in Times Square, New York! To see our beautiful island on the global stage, dominated prime advertising space, is a proud moment for Barbados and all its people, at home and overseas.”
Mount Gay Eclipse Navy Strength is also available for purchase in Barbados at the Mount Gay Visitor Centre and Mount Gay Distillery. This limited edition of Eclipse elevates the revered Mount Gay Eclipse blend as the Navy Strength expression is matured two to four years and contains a higher portion of older pot still rums. The result is a bold, aromatic flavor profile that maintains the roundness, balance and typical elegance of the Eclipse style, now enriched with the vibrant character of true Navy Strength rum.
Mount Gay Eclipse Navy Strength brings bright notes of roasted pineapple, banana, mocha, and vanilla. It is deliciously served with grapefruit soda in a twist on Paloma, in an amped-up Punch, or in a coconut-riffed Mojito. (PR)
