Registration for the National Sports Council’s (NSC) Summer Camp will get under way from today, Wednesday, July 5, at the Wildey Gymnasium, Wildey, St. Michael.
The camp, which commences on Monday, July 17, and ends on Friday, August 25, has over 20 disciplines, with locations across the island.
Parents may register their children, ages 8 to 16, weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is a registration fee of BDS $120.00.
The official launch of the camp was held recently at the Wildey Gymnasium, where Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Charles Griffith, expressed his thanks to the corporate sponsors.
Mr. Griffith highlighted the importance of partnership with corporate sponsors, and emphasised the significance of supporting young people and fostering a positive environment through various events.
“Sponsorship from corporate Barbados is important. It is important because the reality is that a lot of our programmes … are pouring from one single cup. And if we can have corporate Barbados come in to help us in relation to what we’re doing, it can only redound to the benefit of our young people,” he stated.
The Minister noted that Government is committed to offering a comprehensive range of activities and programmes beyond the scope of the NSC.
“All of our camps this year must include soft skills to incorporate vital life skills, including anger management and conflict resolution, into every project, recognising the significance of addressing these challenges faced by the youth,” Mr. Griffith said.
The camp, now in its 38th year, is being sponsored by Digicel Barbados Ltd., Pine Hill Dairy, and Massy Distribution. (PR/GIS)
