Paving the way to a sustainable future with Ekoduro and Kooyman

Barbadians can pave the way towards a clean and sustainable environmental future with the Ekoduro Wave Paver, an innovative outdoor paving solution made entirely from recycled plastic waste.

This new innovative product will be manufactured by FUSE Caribbean using plastics collected by B’s Recycling, and will be available exclusively at Kooyman for the first year of production. Tough and durable, the pavers will be finished in an attractive wave shape designed to enhance outdoor spaces and driveways, whilst rainwater can flow through them.

Several government officials, representatives of FUSE Caribbean, Kooyman, and other industry associates attended a launch this month at the B’s Recycling facility in St. Thomas, marking the start of production.

Kooyman CEO Juri Kooyman is among the partner representatives excited about the initiative’s environmental benefits.

“Kooyman is proud to be a significant partner in delivering yet another first-rate, innovative, and eco-friendly product that fulfils our vision to enhance the quality of life for our customers and communities and aligns perfectly with our Go Green initiative. We are committed to real, tangible solutions that empower our communities, reduce plastic pollution, and drive sustainable development across the region,” Kooyman said.

“We are pleased to play a leading role as a responsible corporate citizen in investing in a cleaner, more sustainable Barbados, supporting and upscaling the recycling efforts that have been spearheaded over the years by B’s Recycling,” Kooyman said.

Kooyman’s marketing officer, Charlene Mullin, said the product should be available by the last quarter of 2025.

“We are keenly anticipating having the Ekoduro Wave Pavers available at the Megastore later this year in time for the annual renovation and beautification tradition during seasons like Independence and Christmas. This high-quality, eco-friendly product further enhances what we offer under our Go Green initiative.  Ekoduro Wave Pavers are strong and weatherproof and won’t fade or wear down from constant exposure to the elements.”

FUSE is a circular concept created by The Great Plastic Bake Off (GPBO) in the Netherlands to facilitate communities worldwide with green tech and smart products that make a difference with plastic waste. To specifically serve countries in the Caribbean and South America, GPBO founded FUSE Caribbean with local retailer Kooyman, a family-owned business from Curaçao that is now active in retail on five Caribbean islands.
