RATE HEARING ON ELECTRICITY TODAY

The Fair Trading Commission (FTC) after approving an interim rate increase to the Barbados Light and Power (BL&P) the BLP will today, Wednesday September 21, 2022, present its case for a permanent rate hike.

It is expected that a group of eight intervenors with diverse backgrounds, legal, finance and interest groups will be present.

The proceedings will be held at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa from 9 am to 4 pm daily for a total of 12 business days and is scheduled to end on October 6, 2022.

The panel of commissioners are led by Deputy Chairman Dr. Donley Carrington. Matters set to be heard are :

  1. Request for confidentiality submitted by BL&P for specific pages to be held in confidence by the commission
  2. A notice to notice motion filed by BL&P filed on August 22
  3. A notice to notice motion filed by Tricia Watson and chartered accountant David Simpson for the commission to order BL&P to amend their application

Some of the other intervenors are Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP), Barbados renewable Energy Association, Energy Division, Ministry of Energy and Business Development
