Sada Williams  Commonwealth Gold

Barbados win Gold, at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom with an impressive record setting performance from Sada Williams.

The thrilling Gold medal performance by Sada Williams in the women’s 400m saw her clock a games record time of 49.90 secs and become the first woman to clock under 50 secs in the games history.

Williams went into the final as the favourite having showed her form a few weeks ago in the bronze medal performance at the World Championships in the USA.

Williams, who took to social media after her semi-final performance to ask what she should suit up in for the final, held her nerve on the back straight and then hit the gas with 200m to go.

She powered home all alone at the front and it was her against the clock as she lowered the previous record of 50.10 secs which was set in 2010 to 49.90 secs.

Speaking after the performance she said that it was always the plan to go after the Games record as well as the gold medal and everything went to plan.

She also mentioned that her season isn’t over as yet as she still has a few more races to go.
