SAMUEL WINS THE CROWN OF LIGHT BOXING DAY RACE EVENT

A superb ride by Jalon Samuel piloted Public Sector (trained by Remel Lovell) to victory in the Crown of Light Boxing Day Stakes and Trophy at the Garrison Savannah on Boxing Day. 

The ace jockey skillfully rode the Melrose Stables owned seven-year-old bay to a dominant four and a half lengths victory over 1570 metres, and captured the $33,500 purse before a big crowd in the feature race on the last day of the 2025 racing season. 

   Smokin ‘T’ ridden by Antonio Bishop finished second, followed by Enisa mounted by Rasheed Hughes, and Portfolio Company (Dario Dalrymple) placed fourth in the race. 

Samuel, 31, was riding at the Garrison for the first time since March 2023, he was fresh from a successful full season at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada where he recorded 21 victories. 

According to an official of the Barbados Turf Club, crowd at the Boxing Day card was the largest at the event in several years. The 2026 racing season starts on January 3 rd.
