STARBUCKS CAPS GLOBAL MONTH OF GOOD WITH MURAL

Caribbean Coffee Baristas Barbados Limited, licensed franchise holder for Starbucks stores operating in Barbados, capped its Global Month of Good activities by unveiling a mural at the Grantley Prescod Memorial Primary School in St. Barnabas Heights, St. Michael on Friday.

Principal Belinda Martindale thanked Starbucks Barbados for its role in beautifying the school and coordinating the installation of the beautiful “We Love the Earth” mural.

“It is always a delight to have our community organizations reach out and assist us. It is, therefore, my pleasure to extend thanks on behalf of the Grantley Prescod Memorial Primary School family to Starbucks, Harris Paints, G & A Communications Inc, and others who have partnered together and chosen to support us with this community project. The mural depicts a clean environment to emphasize the importance of cherishing and embracing the planet.

It is truly a beautiful picture that enhances the ambiance at the school. It is already receiving many positive comments from those who enter the compound,” Martindale commented.

The mural was created by Barbadian conceptual artist Donné Haynes in collaboration with 15 Starbucks partners (employees) who volunteered their time and talent to work with her to paint the piece, which was heavily inspired by graffiti and pop art. Starbucks Barbados partnered with Harris Paints Barbados on the project, with the latter providing paint supplies. The piece showcases elements of Barbados’ natural beauty, such as sugar cane, the Pride of Barbados flower, flying fish, green monkeys, and the ocean. It encourages a sense of connection and movement, illustrating how the beautiful, natural elements are all connected.

The mural’s unveiling follows Starbucks donation of two tablets to the I Am A Girl non-governmental organization for International Women’s Day, in partnership with Promotech, along with the donation of craft items to the Nightingale Children’s Village’s Easter Camp. These initiatives saw the local branch of the global coffeehouse chain joining with Starbucks across the globe to invest in community projects throughout the month of April. (PR)
