Stuart Young’s Ascension to PM hits a snag

The appointment of Stuart Young as the successor for prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Rowley, has hit a snag.

Reports in the Trinidad Express are that a move to gather signatures from members of parliament, MPs, of the governing People’s National Movement, to present to President Christine Kangaloo, has stalled.

The intended letter for the president has to contain at least 21 signatures of MPs pledging support for Young’s appointment as prime minister.

But some MPs are reportedly challenging the process.

This is after Dr. Rowley, in an address to the nation, indicated that he planned to attend a CARICOM meeting in Barbados on February 19.

He added that he would tie up ends on his return to the twin island republic, and then he would be resigning.

But he has not given a precise date.

PNM MPs are now reportedly arguing that there is no rush to sign the document since the prime minister has indicated he would not be resigning as PM before March.
