THREE CHEERS FOR SPORTING EXCELLENCE

Cheers, Smiles and celebrations for Medalists, Record holders and champions of their Sport 

This was the scene when three of Barbados’ top athletes returned to the island on Wednesday. 

Sada Williams the recently crowned women’s Commonwealth 400m champion and the World Championship bronze medalist, Jonathan Jones the men’s Commonwealth 400m Bronze medalist and World Championship finalist and Amber Joseph Pan American Elite cyclist Gold and Silver medal winner as well as a Commonwealth athlete. 

Commonwealth 110m hurdle Silver medalist and World Championship finalist Shane Brathwaite was the other athlete that they had planned to celebrate but he was unable to make it.

There was a VIP welcome on the tarmac by the Minister of Sports Charles Griffith, the Permanent Secretary of his ministry Yolande Howard and National Sports Council head Neil Murrell was the first group to ushered and welcome them back to the island.

Then a waiting line of vehicles for the planned motorcade travelled along the south coast culminating at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium. The Athletes travelled in SUVs just ahead of the music truck which travelled through Bridgetown, an extension to the original route.
