TIK TOK TO RESTORE SERVICE IN THE US

TikTok has announced that it is restoring service to users in the United States just hours after the popular video-sharing platform went dark in response to a federal ban.

In a media release on Sunday, TikTok credited President-elect Donald Trump for making the reversal possible.

It thanked President Trump for providing what it says is the necessary assurance to service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.

Congress had passed the measure with overwhelming bipartisan support, granting TikTok a 270-day window to cut its ties with China-based parent company ByteDance or face a ban.

However, instead of initiating a sale, TikTok pursued a legal challenge on First Amendment grounds that failed in the Supreme Court last Friday.

Google and Apple removed the app from their digital stores to comply with the law.

While it still remains unavailable for download, users, who already had the app, shared that it has been working again with no glitches.

The company says it will continue to work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.
