UWI CAVE HILL RECORD-BREAKING GRADUATION FOR 2022

The newest cohort of alumni from The University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus is still basking in the glory of their recently held graduation ceremony.  This year’s graduates were able to walk the stage and receive their scrolls on October 22 when the ceremony reverted to its annual in-person format for the first time in three years.  The spectacular event was held on the campus grounds.

This year more than 1400 students were eligible to graduate. A total of 187 students were awarded first class honours—breaking last year’s previous highest of 154. In addition, 10 medical students graduated with honours, while upper second-class honours were awarded to 490 students, and 209 received lower second class honours.

At the postgraduate level, 129 students graduated with distinction, while 23 were awarded merit. One graduated with high commendation.

In keeping with university tradition, three individuals were conferred honorary degrees for their outstanding contributions to Barbados and the wider world. Executive Director of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), Dr Joy St John was awarded a Doctor of Science (DSc) for her work in medicine and Public Health leadership; Barbados’ Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Gabriel Abed received a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for entrepreneurship and pioneering Digital Currency, while businessman E. Neville Isdell of Ireland was conferred a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for his contributions to Business and Philanthropy.

The coveted scrolls were presented to the graduates at two ceremonies. The first at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern Caribbean Time) for graduates from the Faculties of Culture, Creative and Performing Arts; Humanities & Education; Law; Medical Sciences; Science & Technology, and Sport. The second ceremony started at 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Caribbean Time) for graduates from the Faculty of Social Sciences.
