World Champions in 8 years ?

Can Barbados become Commonwealth Champions and World Champions in the next seven or eight years?

This was one of the challenges which the Prime Minister of Barbados Hon. Mia Amor Mottley issued to the Barbados Netball Association.

With the Commonwealth Games slated for 2030 and World Champions in netball 2030, Hon Ms Mottley asked that members of the BNA to set some realistic and clear targets.

These targets are to be supported by structures, infrastructure, training and coaching systems as they look to not only regain a Top 10 ranking but rival for the Title.

““I don’t mean unrealistic targets where you’re going to move from number 14 to number one in a year or two. I mean a clear target that is supported.”

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the BNA which was held at the Wildey Gymnasium on Sunday, Barbados’ Prime Minister said the government was ready to meet the BNA halfway if they are serious in their efforts to go after these targets with a clear plan.

Having been involved in a semi-professional league before, Ms Mottley also said that they were looking into the possibility of having a semi-professional League for Netball in Barbados and/or Sub-regionally.

They were 26 Clubs on Parade with St. Barnabas winning the Best team on Parade.

In the opening Division One game Pride of Villa led by their captain Latonia Blackman with 26 goals from 29 attempts cruised to an easy victory of newcomers Kure Oxygen Ballerz 41-29.
