Graduates Urged To Make A Difference In Elderly Care

Graduates of a Care of the Elderly course were reminded of the vital role they play in society, during a graduation ceremony hosted by the Community Development Department of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment.

Speaking last Sunday at the ceremony, Deputy Chief Community Development Officer, Kay Hinds, commended the graduates for their dedication to improving the lives of senior citizens in Barbados.

“Caring for the elderly is more than just a job – it is a calling. You have chosen to contribute to a critical area of society, and through your work, you can help our elders live with dignity, comfort, and respect,” she said.

The course aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to provide high-quality care to senior citizens. Topics included health and wellness, communication techniques, and best practices for addressing the needs of ageing individuals.

Ms. Hinds highlighted the increasing importance of elderly care, in the context of Barbados’ ageing population. “As our nation continues to grow older, the need for compassionate, qualified caregivers becomes even more pressing. You are now part of the solution to this growing challenge, and your work will impact not just individuals but families and communities as a whole,” she noted.

She also encouraged the graduates to view their certification as a stepping stone. “This is not the end of your journey; it is the beginning. Use this training to expand your opportunities, grow your skills, and continue to make a positive impact,” Ms. Hinds urged. (PR/GIS)
