Walters donates hampers to churches as part of Campaign Thank You

Opposition Senator Ryan Walters donated food hampers to several churches in St. Michael North West as part of his 2026 Campaign Thank You.

The hamper presentation on Saturday, followed a Thank You Motorcade earlier in the day, which travelled across the constituency expressing appreciation to residents for their support during the recent General Election.

Addressing church representatives, supporters and member of his team at the Constituency Office, Bottom of Free Hill, Black Rock, Senator Walters reflected on the campaign and the strong support received at the polls.

“We used today to really show the appreciation to the residents and the constituents of St Michael North West. Although we were not victorious at the polls, the facts remain the same. We did garner a significant amount of support in the constituency,” he said.

The DLP candidate noted that the Democratic Labour Party secured 46.5% of the vote in the constituency.

“Which means that we have a lot to be thankful for. We wanted to show appreciation to those persons who have supported the campaign, followed the campaign, attended meetings, reached out, called, whatever capacity, and most of all who would have gone to the polls to support us.”

He described the morning motorcade as warmly received, even in defeat.

“It feels good to be warmly received even after election defeat, but it says to us that the residents are very grateful and the constituents want us to continue the work that we’ve been doing.”

The hamper initiative, he explained, was deliberately structured to avoid any perception of political bias.

“During the campaign, we made a decision that we would give some outreach and we would give some free hampers… but we wanted to use the institution called the church to give us this distribution for us to strip out the political interference or perception of political interference from the distribution of hampers,” the senator explained.

Emphasising that service extends beyond election cycles, Walters added: “Everything is not politics… long after I’m gone, it will still be St. Michael North West and the Democratic Labour Party branch who will be carrying out such activities.”

He assured that the branch remains committed to inclusive community outreach.

“We continue to make sure that we include churches, outreach, community without political bias in this constituency… We’re really thankful and we wanted to share that thankfulness, that gratefulness with everyone today to let them know we appreciate them. We intend to continue our programme in the constituency… to really reach those that are vulnerable.”

Hampers were presented to church representatives in attendance, with additional distributions planned in the coming days. (PR)
