Barbados Reggae Weekend is set to reach a global audience this year, with organisers confirming that live performances from Kensington Oval will be streamed across three continents on a pay-per-view basis.
Speaking during a stakeholder walkthrough on Wednesday, sponsorship manager Michelle Straughn said all systems are in place for the April 24–26 festival, which is shaping up to be a major highlight on the island’s entertainment calendar.
In a significant development, Straughn revealed that the event will be broadcast internationally. “The Barbados Reggae Weekend will be streaming the shows…to the USA, Canada, to Africa…it’s going to be all over the world, and it’s pay-per-view,” she said.
The festival will feature an international lineup including Dexta Daps, D’Yani, Spice, Kranium and Grammy-winning singer Fantasia.
Straughn highlighted the event’s growing international pull, noting ticket sales from markets such as Germany and Ireland. “It shows you that the word is getting out there and people are coming to Barbados for this event,” she said.
She added that overseas media coverage is also expected to expand, with the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. facilitating international exposure for the festival and the island.
