Mia Mottley Fires Up Supporters in St. Lucy Ahead of February 11 Elections

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley delivered a passionate, rallying speech yesterday evening at the Barbados Labour Party’s annual picnic and rally in Checker Hall, St. Lucy, urging Barbadians to register and mobilise support ahead of the February 11, 2026 general election.

Addressing a sea of red-clad supporters gathered for food, music, and political camaraderie, Mottley struck a determined tone as she called on citizens to ensure their names are on the voter register — a crucial step with just weeks remaining before the polls. “We have until Monday to ensure that your names are on the list,” she said, encouraging those unsure of their status to check online or visit the Electoral and Boundaries Commission or their nearest BLP campaign office for confirmation.

A Call for Participation and a Mandate

Mottley’s speech underscored the importance of active participation in the democratic process. She implored supporters not to assume victory without effort, saying the party needed not only enthusiasm but also permission from the electorate to continue its work. “We need your vote, we need your permission. That is what a mandate is,” she told the crowd, reinforcing that every eligible Barbadian should exercise their constitutional right.

The prime minister also emphasised that the campaign had officially begun, committing to accompany the Barbados Labour Party’s slate of candidates across all 30 constituencies in the coming weeks.

Endorsements and Local Focus

In her remarks, Mottley gave a strong endorsement to the BLP’s incumbent candidate in St. Lucy, Peter Phillips, praising his service and resilience — particularly in the wake of personal loss. “When you see Peter Phillips, you see Mia Mottley. We are coming,” she declared, tying the local campaign’s momentum to her broader national vision.

Mottley acknowledged that her party was not perfect but insisted it continued to govern in the interest of Barbados’ communities, urging supporters to help spread that message house to house.

Community Spirit and Election Energy

The atmosphere at the Checker Hall Playing Field was a blend of festivity and political engagement, as thousands of BLP supporters gathered to enjoy the traditional picnic while hearing calls to action from Mottley and other party figures. MPs and candidates took to the stage to reinforce unity and underscore the stakes of the upcoming election.

As the campaign intensifies across the island, Mottley’s message in St. Lucy signalled a determined effort to galvanise grassroots support while steering public focus toward voter registration and turnout.
