OFFICERS BID FAREWELL TO Anisè Bourne

A solemn police funeral brought St George to a standstill on Thursday as uniformed officers, grieving relatives and members of the public gathered at St George Parish Church to honour the life and service of Police Constable Anisè Bourne.

Leading tributes during the service was Inspector Christine Husbands, who described Bourne as a young woman driven by purpose and a clear calling to serve.

“Today is not only a moment of farewell, but also an opportunity to honour a life that chose service,” Inspector Husbands said. “Constable Bourne made the decision to join the Barbados Police Service guided by a clear sense of calling.”

She recalled that in her application submitted on March 22, 2023, Bourne wrote: “I believe we all have a purpose in life, and I know that my purpose in life is to serve my country.”

“These words reflected sincerely the conviction with which she approached her decision,” Husbands noted.

Bourne officially enlisted on January 5, 2024, received service number 2415 and became a member of Course 148 at the Regional Police Training Centre, where instructors described her as approachable, cooperative and respectful.

“From the outset, Constable Bourne demonstrated maturity, patience and a willingness to participate,” Husbands said, adding that she was recognised as “eager to learn and committed to improvement.”

Following training, Bourne served in several departments, including City Patrol, the Southern Division, Traffic, Holetown Police Station and the Criminal Investigation Department, her final attachment.

The eulogy was delivered by her aunt, Patricia Bourne-Nurse, who remembered her as gentle, intelligent and deeply caring. Affectionately known as “Nisey” or “Sweetie,” Bourne was a quiet child who excelled at St George Primary and Lester Vaughan Secondary.

Despite personal hardships, including the loss of her mother, she embraced motherhood wholeheartedly after the birth of her son, Romair.

“You could tell Romair was her everything,” her aunt said. “Anisè took her role as a mother very seriously.”
