Election Day, February 11, is one week away and we continue the national conversation by focusing on Prime Minister Mottley’s constituency of St Michael North East and Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne constituency of St. John.
ST MICHAEL NORTH EAST
Mia Amor Mottley is a Barbadian attorney-at-law and stateswoman who has distinguished herself as one of the most influential global leaders of her generation. She was educated at Queen’s College in Barbados and the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she studied law. She was called to the Bar in Barbados and entered public life at a young age, first elected to the House of Assembly in 1994 as Member of Parliament for St. Michael North East. She has held several senior ministerial portfolios, including Attorney General, Minister ofEconomic Affairs and Development, Minister of Education, Minister of Home Affairs, and Deputy Prime Minister. In 2018, she made history as Barbados’ first female Prime Minister.
Jamal Sandiford is a young Barbadian leader whose experience span skills trades and creative industries. He completed his studies in Culinary Arts at the Barbados Vocational Training Board and became a Silver Medalist in the WorldSkills Barbados Programme. He is Chairman of the St Michael North East Branch and a former Vice President of the Young Democrats.

ST JOHN
Charles Griffith is a lifelong youth and community development practitioner whose career spans more than 25 years of service to the people of Barbados. He holds a Diploma in Youth Work, a Diploma in Sports Management and a BSc in Sociology with Social Work.
Ralph Thorne is a distinguished attorney-at-law snd seasoned parliamentarian serviv as Leader of the Opposition and Political Leader of the Democratic Labour Party. A King’s Counsel with decades of legal practice and served as MP for Christ Church South and recently in parliament as Chairman oof Commission in Local Government Reform.
