BAJANS ARE CHAMPIONS AGAIN

Defending champions Barbados were crowned champions of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Men’s Under-19 tournament, after cruising to a six-wicket victory over United States 1, in the final of the 50 over competition at Conaree Sports Club in St Kitts on Thursday. 

Chasing 213 to win the match in 50 overs, the Bajan lads scored 215 for four wickets off 38.2 overs; openers Zachary Carter (34) and Micah Greenidge (32) started the chase with a quickfire partnership of 65 off 5.2 overs. 

Carter faced 14 balls and smashed three sixes, while Greenidge counted five fours during his 36 balls stay at the crease.  

After Carter’s wicket fell, Greenidge and Shaquan Bell added 51 runs for the second wicket before Greenidge was dismissed with the score at 116 runs for two wickets in the 15th over.

At that stage the captain Joshua Dorne came to the crease and guided his team to victory with an unbeaten 55, he faced 82 balls and struck seven fours. Dorne added 84 runs for the fourth wicket with Joshua Branche (29), while Gadson Bowen who struck the winning runs made 10 not out. Off-spinner Sabrish Prasad took two wickets for 27 runs. 

Earlier, the Americans were bowled for 218 runs in 48.2 overs, after winning the toss and electing to bat. Sahil Garg made 40, Adnit Jhamb got 38, and Presad contributed 27. 

Left-arm pacer Jakeem Pollard captured three wickets for 42 runs, while Carter picked up three wickets for 46 runs, and Dorne chipped in with two wickets for 17 runs.
