PRIME MINISTER’S CUP QUARTER FINALIST NAMED

The quarterfinalists for the Prime Minister’s Cup have been decided after  the final two matches in the round of 16 of Barbados’ most lucrative football competition were played at the Friendship ground in St Michael last weekend.

Ellerton and Paradise were the final teams to advance into the quarterfinals. The St George -based Ellerton hammered newly promoted Premier League club Bagatelle 7-1, and Paradise defeated Whitehall Titans 5-2. 

On October 29, Wotton booked  a sport into the quarterfinals, after defeating last year’s finalist Britton Hill 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out in the nightcap game at Gall Hill, St John  on October 29.  The match was locked at 2-2 when Darian King Barbados’ number one ranked lawn tennis player scored a match winning penalty and created one of the biggest upset in the tournament. Earlier on that same night, St Andrew Lions St Andrew Lions advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Technique 2-0.

Deacons Farm knocked the pride out of Gall Hill with a 3-2 defeat in St Peter on November 1st. Deacons were demoted to the First Division last season, but are know to play well in knockout matches; and Premier League team defeated Greens United 2-1 to earn a spot into the quarterfinals.

Defending champions University of the West Indies (UWI) Blackbirds were booting out of the tournament by Notre Dame1-0 on November 5th, in a gripping clash at Gall Hill, St John, and Weymouth Wales crushed Division Two side 7-0.  

In the quarterfinals, Ellerton will play Paradise; Wotton will encounter St Andrew Lions, while Deacons take on Kickstart Rush, and Weymouth Wales battles with Notre Dame. The teams are vying for a place in the semi-finals and the chance to win $ $100,000 in the final on Independence Day at Kensington Oval.
