Barbados 4-H Foundation Hosts 2nd Annual Kite Making Workshop for Youth

The Barbados 4-H Foundation is pleased to announce the hosting of its 2nd Annual Kite Making Workshop for 4-H members. The workshop will take place at the 4-H Office, Sugar Cane Mall, Bridgetown, on Saturday March 28, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This engaging and educational session will be facilitated by Ms. Marsha Burke, Leader of the St. George Lions 4-H Club and a longstanding contributor to youth development within the 4-H movement.

Flying kites is a cherished Easter tradition in Barbados, deeply rooted in the island’s cultural heritage. Kite-making itself is a valued aspect of Bajan folk tradition, reflecting creativity, craftsmanship, and community spirit. The Barbados 4-H Foundation remains committed to preserving this important cultural practice by equipping its members, ages 4 to 18, with the skills needed to design and build their own kites.

The workshop aims to inspire young participants to appreciate and take pride in this traditional art form while developing key life skills such as teamwork, patience, and attention to detail. Through hands-on learning, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of kite flying in Barbados and play an active role in keeping this tradition alive for future generations.
