Ten Barbadians Receive Pride Of Barbados Insignia

Ten Barbadians were presented with their Pride of Barbados insignia in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their respective parishes in areas such as humanitarian outreach, sport, community development, youth empowerment, and education.

These individuals were previously unable to attend the parish ceremonies held at State House.

The awardees are Dr. Lucille Baird (St. James), Victor Goddard (St. Andrew), Clandice Gooding (St. Philip), Marva Green (St. George), Kim Holder (St. George), Anthony Lynch (St. Philip), Martin Marshall (St. George), Velma Stoute (St. Joseph), Patrick Waithe (St. Philip), and Evan Wickham (St. George).

Following the presentation of insignia by the President of Barbados, Her Excellency The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason, several recipients expressed their gratitude for the honour.

Dr. Baird shared that she was thankful to God for preserving her life and allowing her to serve others for more than 42 years.

She said: “I also want to thank the members of my church who have worked hard to facilitate the vision I have, the passion I have for the lost, and especially for the young men of our society. So, this is not an award just to me. It’s an award, as far as I’m concerned, to my people, my church members, and to my parish, St. James.

“So, I am grateful, and I’m humbled to be able to receive this, and I want to continue to do the work that God has called me to do, until He tells me, well done, faithful servant. I do it not for rewards; I know that one day He will reward me.”

Ms. Holder, who was recognised for her contribution to sport, said she felt “pleased and well blessed for achieving this award”.

Offering advice to others, she said: “Continue doing what you believe in. And even if to help others, do it from your heart…and don’t really expect to get back anything, because you’re doing it from your heart, and you can do it for others and help them.” (PR/GIS)
