Members of the public are invited to attend the Annual Six Men’s Fisherfolk Appreciation Day 2026, which will be held today, Saturday, May 30, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Six Men’s Bay, St. Peter.
The event will honor the invaluable contributions of the men and women of Six Men’s, who continue to sustain Barbados’ fishing industry while strengthening community spirit and preserving the island’s rich fishing heritage.
Now considered one of the highly anticipated community events on the northern calendar, the celebration will have a full day of entertainment and community engagement featuring free watersports activities, fisherfolk storytelling and exhibits, prize-giving, novelty games, and live DJ music.
Representatives of the Coastal Zone Management Unit, the Barbados Fisheries Division and the World Bank project will be on hand to share information on the ongoing projects and programmes being undertaken by their respective organisations.
The Six Men’s Fisherfolk Appreciation Day forms part of activities being held to commemorate the Barbados Fisherfolk Festival, which is being hosted by the Barbados National Union of Fisherfolk Organisations (BARNUFO) in collaboration with the Fisheries and Fish Markets Divisions and the Black Fin Fleet Co-operative Society Ltd.
Under the theme, Celebrating and Empowering Fishers’ Contribution to Food Safety and Security, the festival will have a number of events, including a Church Service at the St. Michael’s Cathedral, educational programmes, 10 community events, competitions, and exhibitions aimed at highlighting the important role of fisherfolk in Barbados’ economy and cultural identity.
