Entrepreneurs across the island are being encouraged to apply for the Barbados Trust Fund Limited’s (BTFL) new Targeted Opportunity Pipeline (TOP™ Programme), a structured enterprise development initiative designed to help businesses move beyond survival and towards sustainable growth.
TOP™ represents a significant and innovative evolution in how entrepreneurship development is delivered, supporting entrepreneurs through a practical pathway that connects opportunity identification, learning, implementation, validation, financing readiness that leads to business growth.
General Manager of BTFL, Gerald Amos, described TOP™ as the organisation’s single most important enterprise development initiatives to date and encouraged entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunity while spaces remain available.
“TOP™ has been designed to support the next generation of entrepreneurs who are serious about building stronger, more competitive businesses. Places are limited, and we are encouraging entrepreneurs with growth ambitions to apply early,” he said.
Mr. Amos noted that the programme has also been developed with regional expansion in mind and is already attracting interest beyond Barbados. He further stated: “This regional approach is an essential capacity development undertaking that is intended to create opportunities for greater market access and supply chain integration.”
“Discussions have already begun with potential regional partners as part of a broader strategy to extend the TOP™ model across the Caribbean. Our vision is to help develop entrepreneurs who are opportunity-focused, innovation-driven and capable of competing successfully in regional and international markets.”
Project Coordinator, Byron Gibson, explained that TOP™ was developed in response to the lived experiences of the BTFL and the changing realities facing entrepreneurs and small businesses.
“Most of our current MSME activity is needs based, resulting in high levels of self-employment with limited ability to scale. TOP™ is intended to address this. It is designed to equip entrepreneurs to be able to identify, evaluate and pursue opportunities that can lead to scalable, competitive and sustainable, growth-oriented enterprises.”
Mr. Gibson explained that while most current entrepreneurship programmes are delivered using traditional subject based teaching methodologies, TOP™ is topic oriented and combines enterprise development, implementation support, validation processes, and financing readiness within a single framework.
“At its core, TOP™ is built around a simple but powerful journey: opportunity identification, learning, implementation, validation, financing readiness and growth. Through this structured approach, participants are supported in transforming ideas into enterprises and enterprises into stronger, more resilient businesses.”
Mr. Gibson also revealed that the programme is currently completing the recruitment and training of a new network of entrepreneurship facilitators, who will support programme delivery across Barbados and, eventually, throughout the wider Caribbean.
