CIBC Caribbean welcomes seventy-three summer interns chosen from among thousands of applicants

Seventy-three summer interns are settling in at the offices and branches of CIBC Caribbean as part of the bank’s summer internship programme which attracted over 3,000 applicants this year.

The interns, many just having completed their university education or are in their final year, are spread across nine business units of the regional bank’s ten-member footprint with the majority, 49, placed at the bank’s regional headquarters and business centre in Barbados. Nine interns are at the Jamaica business, five in The Bahamas, three in Trinidad and Tobago, two each in the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands and one each in St Lucia, St Kitts and Turks and Caicos Islands.

“We had an overwhelming response to the internship programme this year receiving well over 3,000 applications,” said the bank’s Director, Talent Management & Employee Experience, Jewel Clarke.

She said the summer internship programme “is more than just an introduction to the world of work; it is a strategic investment in the future of our organization. It allows us to identify, develop, and inspire emerging talent while giving interns meaningful, real-world experiences that build confidence, capability, and a strong connection to our culture.”

The interns are eagerly looking forward to making the most of their experience with many highlighting their anticipation for the challenge, as well as learning opportunities.

“So far it’s been treating me pretty good. I’m liking my department and my manager. I’m looking forward to seeing what more the department has to offer,” said Shanesha Clarke, who is attached to the Transformation, Governance and Control team.

“The internship experience with CIBC has been a good experience. I’ve definitely been put outside of my comfort zone, but I see this experience as a great opportunity to show my capabilities. My team has been very supportive, and I look forward to seeing my growth over the next 12 weeks,” said Kemar Benn, who is working with the Payments /Merchant Services /Marketing teams.

Tynisa Boyce, who is based at the Call Centre said, “the internship is treating me well, it’s a good pace. I’m looking forward to working more with customers, especially on social media,”

“So far it’s been an interesting switch for me, going from the world of computer science to risk management. Learning new things that I never thought I would have the opportunity to. I’m looking forward to the next three months,” said Matthew Ward, who is working with the Risk Management team.

Manager of Talent Acquisition and Development Stephanie Blackman said she was “thrilled with this year’s selection of interns, as I believe we’re building on the candidates who are both technically strong and have the capacity to learn critical software skills that will make them successful well-rounded professionals.”  (PR)
