Barbados has been elected by acclamation to serve on the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund, and the United Nations Office for Project Services for a three-year term, from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2029.
As a nominee of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States (GRULAC), Barbados was elected alongside Peru, which will also represent the GRULAC regional group on the Board.
There are 14 specialised agencies under the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which are each headed by an elected executive board. These Executive Boards, operating under the ECOSOC, provide intergovernmental support, oversight, and guidance to the operational activities of UN entities, while ensuring alignment with the broader policy direction established by the UN General Assembly and ECOSOC.
Barbados will assume its seat on the Executive Board on January 1 of next year, joining Mauritania, Nigeria, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Poland, Peru, France, Italy, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Barbados last served on the board of UNDP in 1994.
