HRMAB CELEBRATES HR PROFESSIONALS’ DAY WITH GENERAL MEETING,

Human Resource practitioners were celebrated recently when the Human Resource Management Association of Barbados (HRMAB) proudly joined the global community in recognising   HR Professionals’ Day on Friday 26th September. This day shines a spotlight on the vital role that Human Resources plays in building strong organisations, empowering people, and shaping the future of work.

To mark the occasion, HRMAB held its General Meeting, a significant gathering that highlighted the Association’s growth, new initiatives, and strengthened leadership.

Speaking on the occasion, HRMAB President Tisha Peters said:

“On HR Professionals Day, we celebrate not only the individuals in our profession but also the future of HR in Barbados and the wider region. Today’s meeting showcased our commitment to growth, innovation, and strong governance as we prepare to lead HR into the future.”

Induction of New Members

At the meeting, HRMAB inducted 14 new members, bringing the total to 39 for the year so far. This steady growth adds to an already vibrant network of professionals. With membership now just under 500 practitioners across diverse industries, HRMAB continues to be the leading voice for HR in Barbados.

Immediate Past President Nicholas Roberts noted the significance of the moment, particularly the induction of three male practitioners: “This is a feat in itself and shows the growth of what has normally and historically been a female-dominated profession. It reflects a shift that strengthens the diversity of our membership and the profession at large.”

Launch of Membership Card & Digital Badge

Members were also introduced to two exciting initiatives that strengthen professional identity and visibility. The HRMAB Membership Card and Digital Badge not only affirm members’ affiliation with the Association but also provide practical value. The Membership Card comes with benefits and discounts at businesses across the island, giving members a tangible advantage while reinforcing HRMAB’s commitment to supporting their professional journey.

Appointment of New Trustee

The meeting also marked the induction of a new trustee, Ms. Brittany Brathwaite, HRMAB Past President (2019–2022). In the context of an association such as HRMAB, a trustee plays an important role in ensuring sound governance, safeguarding the integrity of the organisation, and supporting its strategic direction. Ms. Brathwaite brings a wealth of expertise in industrial relations and human capital development, as well as strong regional and international experience. She now joins two other trustees, stalwarts within the profession and HRMAB, Dr. Hensley Sobers (Past President 1998–2000) and Mr. Grantley Haynes (Past Membership & Activities Chair 1998–2000). Together, they strengthen the Association’s governance framework and reflect HRMAB’s commitment to continuity and strong leadership.

Future Projects

Looking ahead, HRMAB is set to launch a Students Association in collaboration with the University of the West Indies, ensuring that future practitioners are engaged, mentored, and equipped to carry the profession forward. Separately, HRMAB will spotlight HR leaders past, present, and those upcoming practitioners chartered to lead in the future, keeping the profession’s legacy and future talent in focus. The Association is also working to establish meaningful partnerships with charities as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility agenda, reinforcing HRMAB’s role not only as a professional body but also as a positive force in society.

As HRMAB celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025, these milestones highlight the Association’s ongoing role as the leading advocate for human resources management in Barbados. The celebrations will culminate with HRMAB’s inaugural Awards Gala on Sunday, 2 November 2025 at Sandals Royal, where outstanding professionals will be recognised for their contributions to the field. HRMAB remains committed to elevating professional standards, strengthening national HR governance, and positioning HR as a driver of organisational and national success. (PR)
