Occupational Safety & Health Week 2025: June 29 – July 3

“A Legacy of Labour – 85 Years of Progress” is the theme for Occupational Safety and Health Week, which runs from June 29 to July 3, this year.

 As the Labour Department celebrates 85 years of service, its Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Section will observe the week with several activities. 

On Sunday, June 29, employees will join the congregation at All Saints Anglican Church, Pleasant Hall, St. Peter, to kick-start the week with a church service, beginning at 8:00 am. The public is invited to attend.

The following day, Monday, June 30, until Thursday, July 3, the department will host a series of seminars and a health and wellness exhibition. Members of the public will be afforded the opportunity to learn more about a wide array of topics on Occupational Safety & Health as they participate in a new and exciting initiative of the Ministry – the health and wellness exhibition.                    

The opening ceremony for OSH Week will be held in the Henry Fraser Lecture Theatre at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus, on Monday, June 30, at 9:00 a.m.  Following the ceremony, the seminars on Monday will begin at 11: 00 a.m. and run until 4:30 p.m. They will address Workplace Wellness in Focus including the topics ‘Manage Your Money, Manage Your Stress’ and ‘Strategies for Managing Workplace Wellness’.

Occupational Safety and Health practitioners will have a networking session on Tuesday, July 1, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, in the Amphitheatre on the 1st Floor of the Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael.

The health and wellness exhibition on Thursday, July 3, will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.in the carpark of the Warrens Office Complex.

There will be presentations on ‘Workplace Security’, ‘Warehouse Safety’ and ‘Fire Safety’. Officers from the Labour Department will be present to answer questions related to Industrial Relations, Occupational Safety & Health, as well as Employment Counselling.  Additionally, there will be various exhibitors from both the public and private sectors and from large corporations to small businesses; all showcasing their products and services.

Workplaces are also encouraged to organise and notify the Labour Department of their own safety and health awareness events during the week.

Members of the public interested in attending the events are required to pre-register for these sessions by filling out the online registration form, as soon as possible.  (PR/GIS)
