The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) has announced a significant change to one of Crop Over’s marquee events, confirming that the 2026 Courtesy Garage Pic-O-De-Crop Finals, powered by Q100.7 FM, will now take place at CARIFESTA House, Waterford, St. Michael, on Friday, July 31, beginning at 8:00 p.m.

While the venue has changed, the date and start time remain exactly as scheduled.

Originally slated for Kensington Oval, the relocation comes in light of the announcement that the State Service of Thanksgiving for Barbados’ National Hero, The Right Excellent Sir Garfield St Aubrun Sobers, will be held at the historic venue on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

A National Priority

For Barbados, the farewell to Sir Garry Sobers is far more than a ceremonial occasion. It represents a defining national moment, one that resonates across the Caribbean and throughout the international cricketing community.

The State Service will be conducted with the full honours accorded to a National Hero, requiring the coordinated efforts of government agencies, security personnel, ceremonial units, broadcasters and numerous national stakeholders. Such an event demands extensive preparation before the service and considerable restoration of the venue afterward.

Given the short interval between the State Service on Wednesday and the Pic-O-De-Crop Finals on Friday, the Foundation determined that Kensington Oval could not realistically accommodate both events while maintaining the high standards expected of each.

Rather than disrupt the Crop Over calendar or compromise either occasion, the NCF opted to relocate the Finals.

A New Stage for Calypso’s Biggest Night

The Finals will now be hosted at CARIFESTA House, a venue that has quickly established itself as an important addition to Barbados’ cultural landscape.

During the 2026 Crop Over season, CARIFESTA House has already successfully hosted several major events, including the Republic Bank Pan Yard Lime, Fusions, and the Scotiabank Junior Monarch Finals. Its proven capacity and flexibility made it the logical choice for staging calypso’s premier competition.

The Foundation says its production, technical and operations teams are already working to transform the venue to meet the unique demands of the Pic-O-De-Crop Finals. Every aspect of the production—from staging, sound and lighting to audience flow, accessibility, accreditation and safety—is being carefully reviewed to ensure patrons enjoy an exceptional experience.

Supporting the Festival Community

The NCF acknowledged the extensive preparations already undertaken by calypsonians, tent managers, musicians, arrangers, sponsors, vendors, production crews, media organisations and thousands of supporters.

Recognising that a late venue change presents logistical challenges, the Foundation expressed sincere appreciation for the understanding and flexibility being shown throughout the festival community.

While the adjustment may require changes for many stakeholders, the NCF believes the decision reflects the importance of balancing two defining aspects of Barbadian identity: paying tribute to one of the nation’s greatest sons while preserving the uninterrupted celebration of its vibrant calypso tradition.

As the nation gathers to bid farewell to Sir Garry Sobers—a sporting icon whose achievements elevated Barbados onto the world stage—it will also continue the enduring tradition of Pic-O-De-Crop, where calypsonians chronicle the triumphs, struggles and stories of the people through music and performance.

By relocating the Finals, the National Cultural Foundation believes both responsibilities can be fulfilled with the dignity, respect and excellence they deserve.

When the curtains rise at CARIFESTA House on July 31, audiences can still expect a world-class Pic-O-De-Crop Finals—one that celebrates the resilience of Barbadian culture while honouring the enduring legacy of a National Hero whose influence will be felt for generations to come.
