Young Professionals Begin Immersion Programme

Nineteen (19) eager, young career aspirants recently embarked on an exciting new aspect of their lives when they started the CIBC Caribbean Immersion programme, one in which they will be engaged for the next 18 months.

Divided into three areas, the programme, the brainchild of CIBC Caribbean’s Talent Management department, designed to support both external new hires and internal employees, gives them the opportunity to literally immerse themselves in various departments of the bank which offers them a structured, practical learning journey within the bank.

Throughout the program, participants are immersed in targeted areas of the business and receive tailored training, hands on exposure, soft skill training and developmental opportunities aligned to their respective areas of focus. Upon successfully meeting all program requirements, external participants will be placed into full time roles, while internal participants will transition into new roles within the areas in which they trained.

Of the nineteen (19) participants, eleven (11) of them will work in Barbados while there is one (1) in Bahamas, one (1) in Turks and Caicos (TCI), one (1) in Cayman, one (1) in Trinidad and four (4) in Jamaica.

This year’s cohort spans three key areas of the business. The Technology Immersion and Innovation Programme (TIIP) welcomed 12 participants, reflecting the bank’s continued focus on innovation and digital capability. The Corporate Banking Immersion Programme brought on four participants, while Personal and Business Banking’s Immersion Programme welcomed three participants, rounding out a diverse and well-balanced intake across core business lines.

Project lead, Talent Acquisition & Development Manager, Stephanie Blackman explained that interested participants have to go through a rigorous selection process with several interviews, technical and psychometric assessments as well as final interviews with senior managers, as they are being chosen from hundreds of applications across the three programmes. She added “The bank is proud of this programme because we believe in the development of people.  The programme is not just technical but also includes soft skills training so at the end of this programme, they are well rounded professionals.”

Some of those in the programme expressed delight in being chosen to participate in the immersion. Nathan Maynard, who is new to the bank, referred to it as a “reassuring opportunity for growth and development,” while two young ladies, Denea Payne and Crystal Hurdle, working on cloud engineering and building infrastructure for apps to run in the cloud, simply smiled and said, “amazing and rewarding”.

The 2026 cohort also reflects the regional strength of CIBC Caribbean, with participants representing six of the bank’s ten territories. This geographic diversity reinforces the organization’s commitment to developing talent across the region and ensuring a strong pipeline of skilled professionals who understand local markets while contributing to the bank’s broader strategic objectives.
