Friends of Democracy Pays Election Deposits at NHC Ahead of February 11 Polls
The Friends of Democracy (FOD) continued its preparations for the February 11 General Election with a visit yesterday to the National Housing Corporation (NHC), where the party officially paid the required deposits for its slate of candidates.
Party officials described the move as a critical administrative step in ensuring that FOD candidates are fully compliant with electoral requirements ahead of Nomination Day. However, the candidates led byPresident Karina Goodridge announced that the party is not seeking Government by rather Opposition.
Speaking briefly after the twelve candidates paid their deposits, Karina Goodridge reiterate the parties ultimate goal ‘ Our main this is to remind Barbadians, you need a leader of opposition. We cannot have another 30-0 in this country’.
Goodridge is the FOD’s candidate for St Philip West stated that daily canvassing will be done and asked Barbadians to follow them on social media. She said the party remains focused on “organisation, discipline, and accountability” as it moves deeper into the campaign period. “Paying our deposits is not just a formality; it reflects our commitment to the democratic process and to offering Barbadians credible representation,” the Goodridge noted.
General Secretary Steve Blackett, a former minister and member of the Democratic Labour Party is now the General Secretary of Friends of Democracy. In addressing the media Blackett stated that they were going to have four ‘mega’ meetings and eight national meetings. He said they realised winning is a big ask so they were focusing on becoming the Opposition, though they were not completely ruling out becoming the next administration.
