Mission Barbados Launches National School Activation Programme

“Be respectful, be kind, [and] be loving to your brothers and sisters.”

This call was issued by Head of the Public Service, Donna Cadogan, last Friday, as Mission Barbados launched its National School Activation Programme, at the Alexandra School in St. Peter.

As part of its ongoing national transformation efforts, the Mission Barbados team visited five schools for their St. Peter Parish Tour, to sensitise students about how they too can play a role in shaping a sustainable, inclusive and progressive future for Barbados.

During her brief remarks, Mrs. Cadogan implored the students to remember that everyone they encounter was not in competition with them, as each person was also striving to unlock their full potential.

“I encourage you to love one another, to work together, stop fighting, stop the carrying on. The Prime Minister’s message to you all is about love. Barbadians are known for being warm and loving persons and we want you all to continue that legacy…. You are all important, you are all important to this country,” she asserted.

Head of the Mission Barbados Control Centre, Zimron Andrews, gave an overview of the initiative and highlighted its Six National Missions and Five Beacons of Renewal. He pointed out that the programme was designed to address a number of challenges impacting Barbadians, in an effort to ensure a bright future for all.

“When we talk about challenges that we face, we’re talking about the increase in crime, we’re talking about poverty, we’re talking about the opportunities for you to have empowerment…. We want to build a new culture for you, and we want you to share your ideas,” Mr. Andrews stated.

The morning presentation included several engaging activities with the students and a performance of the Mission Barbados jingle by Jude Clarke. (PR/GIS)
