PHARMACY SERVICES AT THE QEH RETURNING TO NORMAL AS DIGITAL HEALTH TRANSFORMATION CONTINUES

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital says prescription services are returning to normal following temporary disruptions caused by the implementation of a new digital pharmacy system.

Director of Clinical and Diagnostic Services Dr. Corey Ford said the hospital had resolved many of the technical issues experienced during the transition and pharmacy staff were once again processing prescriptions at levels similar to those before the system went live.

He acknowledged the inconvenience experienced by patients, apologized for the delays and commended pharmacy staff for their commitment during the challenging period.

Dr. Ford said the upgraded system forms part of the hospital’s wider Health Information System, expected to transform healthcare delivery by digitizing prescriptions, improving patient records and reducing dependence on paper-based processes.

Future plans include a patient portal and mobile application allowing patients to access appointments, prescriptions and portions of their medical records electronically.

The hospital is also exploring partnerships with community pharmacies that would enable patients to collect repeat medication closer to their homes instead of travelling to the QEH.

Meanwhile, patients are reminded that the Phlebotomy Department has relocated to the QEH Annex at Six Avenue, Belleville, as part of the Enmore Redevelopment Project, with additional departments expected to move in the coming weeks.

Hospital officials are encouraging patients to request repeat medication before supplies run out, avoid collecting multiple queue tickets and continue providing feedback as improvements to healthcare delivery continue.
